starting over at identi.ca

Inspired by misstech, I have just pruned all my identi.ca subscriptions back to Ground Zero.

So now we start again from scratch using nothing more than organic gardening, identi.ca groups, tracked keywords and discovery.

David - I subscribed to over 350 people over the last 15 months on identi.ca.

The majority were dormant, dead accounts or folk who hadn't posted in over 6 months. This hinders discovery as if you are browsing your Friends subscriptions and groups, your list of subscriptions is skewed and doesn't reflect the much smaller list of people you really like and follow.

Secondly, it's interesting to see what methods you use to quickly rebuild the list - known friends, then by following conversations or even keyword tracking, people who talk (reply) to you, people who like your stuff (Faves) etc.

Fringe benefit: As you rebuild the list of subscriptions, people feel loved as they think they have a new friend.

Possible disadvantage: When you unsubscribe, some people may immediately reciprocate never to return.

Could not have said it better, myself.

Talk about taking the ball and running with it. My inspiration, your perspiration. Thinking, *Hero*.

But users don't get notified you have unsub, so they.never know

@bugabondo Funny you should day that. That was my understanding but a couple of people have recently subscribed to me after I (re-)subscribed to them so I must conclude that they weren't previously following me and just reciprocated my recent follow. So another fringe benefit then :-)

Resub will notify users
Please try to get my nick right , ok Andy?

@Andy C - have you talked to your doctor about this? I wouldn't if I were you. ;-)

Seriously, though, yes I see what you're trying to do now - thanks for taking the time to explain to a fellow idiot.

And, yes, give BIGabongo sum respect, man!

@BUGabundo Apologies but my brain has a really hard time parsing your nick. I'm not sure if it gets distracted by the Ascii art but I always want to mix up the vowels. In fact, I only got it right here by copy/pasting it.

I hope, pray folks will NOT follow me, simply because I follow them. I feel they should follow me because they like to read my drivel, or they like yawning.

ahah

Peggy I follow you because I like what you say.
if what a user generally talks about amuses me, i follow them

My primary motivation was actually to answer 'How many people am I really following ?'

that makes me scared...
i see ppl on twitter following 5k, 10k and above! its just impossible
specially since on StatusNet u get all notices, not only replies of
ppl both follow like buggy twit does.

more over tracking both my accounts, and Dentitcator top 10, we are
talking about ~300 notices per day.
thats *A LOT*
